About the Event
France was the leading proponents in the development of Romanesque and Gothic style. From cathedral architecture to painted and sculpted figures the elegant elongated proportion was central to the graceful style of "International Gothic" which dominated the European aesthetic. The revival of classical proportion in Renaissance Italy is evident in the Loire Palaces in which Italian artists were employed, creating a mannerist aesthetic "Fontainebleau School". Finally we will look at portraiture and the superb studies by Francois Clouet.
