Poussin's great multi-figured paintings are beautifully composed, highly coloured evocations of classical & religous subjects. They can be a little daunting and it is heartening to know that even Poussin's learned patrons sometimes struggled with their meaning! Join Hattie as she guides us through.

About the Event
Instructing that his paintings should be "read" Poussin drew on the  classicism of his adopted city Rome.  In this talk Hattie Bennett will trace Poussin's biography, his painting practices and influences, his patrons and his intellectual circle to fully understand his art and the influence it had on the French school in the 17th century.
This lecture will be offered as a Hybrid lecture.
