About the Event
Often written out of history, Dutch women during the 17th century played a crucial role in advancing the Dutch Republic during one of its most prolific periods. Whether it was running their merchant husband's businesses if they were out trading, or entering into contracts on their own, they took advantage of their legal right to work and fight alongside men. Who were the women who represented this unique period of Netherlands history and why are we only hearing about their substantial contributions in the modern day? From ordinary women to down right dare devils, it's time to uncover the pragmatic, strong-willed, and underappreciated Dutch women who defined the Dutch Golden Age.
