About the Event

The exhibition at Greenwich about the Van de Veldes has had extra ordinary press coverage - more than I  had expected from 'Sea Scapes' which seem to have fallen out of fashion. I  am glad they are back in the spotlight, and I  hope you will join me to see why!

A wonderful father and son duo, complimentary in their skills, the van de Velde family dominated a genre of painting for ever synonymous with their name. Exceptionally accurate drawings of  ships and clever skill of its composition, combined with the unique ability to render light and atmosphere made these painters wanted not just in Holland but by King Charles II too. It was Kind Charles who offered them a studio space at the Queen's House in Greenwich, the venue of the current exhibition - still on until January 2024.
