So you know Rembrandt, enjoyed the landscapes with windmills and laughed at the naughty genre paintings. The relatable, down to earth people who are just like you and me endeared you. But did you realise this was only a percentage of paintings being made in 17th century Holland? Join us to discover!

About the Event
The blockbuster exhibition on Vermeer has made it all the more clear again: art during the Dutch Golden Age can feel completely different to what we are used to. Vermeer's early paintings look more like Italian art than Dutch art in a completely different style and with different subject matters.
This talk will look at some of these paintings and the artists that created them. Why they made these paintings, for who and how they were valued.
delivered by Mariska Beekenkamp-Wladimiroff
