About the Event
With British wealth growing during the 18th century we see a resurgence of the demand for painted portraits. A new class of rich merchants emerges alongside a new generation of home trained artists. Thanks to an art academy run by Hogarth at the beginning of the 18th century and the later Royal Academy of Arts, run by the first president, portraitist and brilliant teacher sir Joshua Reynolds, a new distinctively British genre emerges.
Join us for an introduction in the British Portrait Painting from the 18th century. No previous knowledge is required.
