About the Event
The seductive image of the femme fatale that adorns the work of Gustav Klimt and colleagues is far from being the only female presence in Viennese modernism. From the formidable sculptor TeresaRies (dubbed Vienna’s Rodin) to Expressionist painters including Helene Funke and Broncia Koller-Pinell, and from the versatile designers of the Wiener Werkstätte to socially-conscious architect Margarete Schütte – Lihotzky, this lecture opens a vivid window onto the role of women in the flourishing landscape of Vienna between the fin-de-siècle and the rise of Austro-Fascism.
