Kandinsky life and trajectory is not often discussed. People tend to focus on moments in his artistic career, on some of his most recognisable and transformative works. But his life and personal journey are equally interesting, surprising, and at times very very sad.

This talk will look at all of it! From his very late start as an artist (he had studied law and economics at university) beginning with his early figurative works and inspiration from his travels through Europe, when he got exposed to the Impressionists, the Pointillists and the Fauvists. To his slow evolution into abstraction , trying to visually capture what the experience of music feels like.

His return to his native Russia because of WWI, will mean a return to figurative art and a revisit of Russian folklore themes. However, back in Russia he will also get caught up in the Russian Revolution and will lose…
