About the Event
Conservation and restoration are becoming more and more part of the visitor experience, with conservators working within the gallery space and museums keeping audiences updated on progress. Hard decisions on which works to treat and which to leave alone, but also in choosing which aspects of their forms and histories to suppress and which to make evident, or openly discussed and brought to the forfront of the public debate. By action or inaction, the conservator edits the visible history of a work of art, selects particular narratives of the genesis, survival, and later embellishment of a work of art, and presents them for interpretation. We will be looking at curious discoveries, re-interpretations of works of art, difficult decisions made, regrettable actions taken and interventions which are up for debate!
