About the Event

"Georges Seurat derives from no one but himself, his name should be pronounced alone.”

In this lecture, we will explore the early life and pivotal events that shaped Seurat’s career. Born in 1859, Seurat trained at the École des Beaux-Arts before developing his revolutionary Pointillism technique. We will closely examine A Sunday on La Grande Jatte (1884–1886), analyzing how Seurat’s method combined scientific precision with artistic symbolism, offering both social commentary and deeper psychological insights.

The lecture will also cover his lasting influence on modern art, particularly on movements such as Symbolism and Abstraction, where Seurat’s structured approach paved the way for new explorations in form, light, and colour.

Though he died prematurely in 1891, Seurat’s legacy continues to resonate through the foundations he laid for modernist experimentation.
