About the Event
Walter Sickert (1860-1942) played a crucial role in the ‘modernisation’ of art in Britain. As assistant to Whistler and friend to Degas he acted as a conduit for Impressionism and through the New English Art Club and the creation of the Camden Town Group he was influential as artist, writer and teacher. His was an art of the everyday and his subjects often create a sense of unease and intrigue which many identify as a particular characteristic in British art.
Tate Britain will be hosting an exhibition of his work from 28 th April to 18 th September 2022 and this will be the largest retrospective of Sickert’s work at the Tate for more than sixty years.
