Led by art historian, museum educator, and lecturer Mariska Beekenkamp-Wladimiroff, this art-centric virtual journey will feature:


  • The Baroque fascination with violent and emotionally charged scenes, and how Artemisia’s work fits within this tradition

  • The depiction of women in art, including two timeless male anxieties: the fear of autonomous female sexuality and the vulnerability of male power in the face of female agency

  • Opportunities for women in the early modern age, particularly in the arts, and how Artemisia navigated a male-dominated world

  • The role of patrons and the art market during the Baroque period, and how women participated in this evolving landscape

  • Artemisia’s biography, including the struggles and triumphs that shaped her career
