Online New York

All art is illusionistic by nature. Most artists use illusionary techniques to depict reality, but some depict the illusionary nature of art &perception itself. Is what we are looking at real, a depiction of the real, a reflection of the real, a symbolical version of the real or are we the illusion?

About the Event

All art is illusionistic by nature. Most artists use illusionary techniques to depict reality, but some use illusions to depict the illusionary nature of art and perception. We as the viewers are sometimes, but not always, aware of what we are looking at is real, a depiction of the real, a reflection of the real, a symbolical version of the real or if we ourselves are the illussion!

This talk will explore the idea of illusions in historical art through the themes of mirrors, trompe d’oeil and dressing up.

Join Mariska Beekenkamp-Wladimiroff as she delivers this talk for the New York Adventure Club. Please note tickets will go on sale about 3 weeks in advance and you will be taken to the external website Eventbrite to book.
